Giclée (zhee-CLAY) prints are generated from high resolution digital files and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper. Giclée prints are advantageous to artists who do not find it feasible to mass produce their work, but want to reproduce their art as needed, or on-demand.
Yes, they are more beautiful and elegant. Canvas doesn't need to be framed with protective glass so the image can be seen clearly without bothersome glares. The natural texture of the canvas gives the exact look and feel of an original oil painting. Canvas giclées prints are tougher and far more durable than paper prints.
Our canvas prints are made by printing directly on the canvas with the giclée method. They are not paper transfers. With this method the printer puts millions of color ink droplets onto the artist's canvas in order to reproduce the image. After printing we seal the surface with an UV and humidity protective transparent gloss coating.
According to Wilhelm Research our canvases will last 75 years when displayed indoors.

We use a specially treated artists textured canvas that is prepared for use with high quality Ultrachrome inks. Once the ink is applied to the canvas it will not fade - the ink has been rated for 75 years. We then roll on a special UV protective coating to the surface of the canvas. This UV coating adds a slight gloss and really enhances the vividness of the color. Blacks look blacker and all of the colors jump to life.
We provide the canvas in several ways:
1. Rolled - canvas is sent rolled up for stretching or framing at a later date with a 2" canvas border.
2. Gallery Wrapped -- the image is stretched around a 1-1/2" frame. The image around the side acts as its own frame and is ready to hang.
3. Standard stretch - the canvas is stretched on ¼ inch deep wooden supports for framing. Image shows only on front side and does not go around the edge. This stretch would need to be finished off with a frame around the outside.
4. Framed-- includes standard stretch. The image is stretched on stretcher bars and then framed with your choice of frame. Upon receipt it is ready to hang.
The most inexpensive method for shipping is the "Rolled" version above. Depending on your needs it is sometimes easier to purchase the canvas rolled and then have a local framer prepare it for hanging.
We have found that it is best to stretch the canvas within 10 days of receiving it from us. The UV coating has a certain elasticity that can be advantageous when stretching. After 10 or so days the elasticity is not as generous. In very cold climates if the canvas is pinched it can actually crack the surface of the coating. Store your unstretched canvas in a climate no less than 50 degrees Fahrenheit (equal to10 degrees Celsius).
The canvas can be wiped to remove dust using a soft dry cloth. Do not scrub the canvas when cleaning and NEVER use water to clean your canvas. Like any artwork, void displaying it in

Rolled canvas is typically turned around in 3-5 days. If you have requested stretching we turn around your work in 5-7 days and if you have requested a proof, it is 3-5 days from your approval.

Many customers have digitally photographed there own images. Just make sure the lighting is bright and that the setting on your camera is at the highest quality.
You can also find a local professional photographer if you are doing limited editions and the exact color is important, otherwise you can take it to Kinkos for scanning. It will save you time and money as well as the satisfaction of knowing your original art is not getting lost or damaged in transit.
If you have a flatbed scanner you can easily provide us with a quality digital file. Scan at 100% of the final size you want printed on canvas (this may mean enlarging your image when you scan it). Choose the dpi of at least 300 and save as JPG or BMP format. If you want a very large image and cannot upsize it with your equipment, just save at 300 or more dpi at half the requested size and we can proportionally size it up for you.
We can also accept TIF, PDF, PSD and AI files but these tend to exceed our 25MB limit for uploading so we recommend JPG or BMP file formats.
Yes. Please make sure that you have permission to have the work reproduced. Ultimately you are responsible for this copyright situation since in our online agreement you state that you have gotten approval for all work that is not yours. This is a special process and you will need to call us ahead of ordering for specifics.
Yes. We can enlarge files up to 700% without losing any quality if you provide us with a digital file that is 300 dpi in a JPG or BMP format.
Most JPG or BMP files will not go over a 25MB file size. If your image is over 25MB please call us to make special arrangements
Digital Cameras - Print Output size depends on the resolution of your digital camera. You should have at least a 3.5 mega pixel digital camera. Then make your settings the maximum file size possible.
Although we would prefer you to upload your image, if you have a special circumstance please call us to discuss it.
No. We accept only digital files. If you only have a photograph, 35mm slide or transparency have it converted into a high resolution digital file and upload it.
Either format is accepted. Since we print with seven color inkjet devices, our printing color space will be larger than the CMYK color space, but smaller than the RGB space. If you have RGB files, keeping the files in that space will give you the widest color range for printing.
No. Please send only digital images. You can easily go to a local copy center like Kinkos and have them create a digital file for you (if this is for limited editions you should consider getting it professionally scanned). Then just upload the digital image and place your order.
